JDilla, who passed away from Systemic Lupus, an auto-immune disorder, created legendary beats for A Tribe Called Quest, Common, De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Slum Village, Erykah Badu, and Busta Rhymes, to name a few. He also worked very closely with The Roots founder ?uestlove.
JDilla's mother, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey, is scheduled join the event to talk about her son, his music, Lupus awareness, and the work of the J. Dilla Foundation.
